Know anyone who wants to fill up a spare room? I'm notoriously quiet, apart from snoring. -- Anton Sherwood, http://www.ogre.nu/ "How'd ya like to climb this high *without* no mountain?" --Porky Pine From mark_galeck at pacbell.net Mon Aug 14 00:44:08 2006 From: mark_galeck at pacbell.net (Mark Galeck) Date: Sun, 13 Aug 2006 17:44:08 -0700 Subject: [Exi-bay-announce] Extropian hike weekend of Aug 26-27... Message-ID: <000e01c6bf3a$c15c0700$a50f7a44@andromeda> Hello, we had a great time last weekend at Angel Island and I had promised to try and have an extropian hike, so here we go... Let's increase our extropy and postpone a visit to the dewar, by hiking! I chose a random nice place in the Bay Area - turned out to be Marin Headlands, and a random nice route, under 10 miles for general population. That would be about 7 hours total, drive over there from South Bay, hike, drive back, but the details are of course to be adjusted. If you are interested, tell me your day preference - Sat 26th or Sun 27th, and hours (Sunday I can only do afternoon). We'll take it easy of course and adjust the speed to the slowest person. Or if nobody likes that random place, how about another random nice place - Stevens Creek County Park? That would be much shorter in duration. Tell me if you prefer that. Carpool from: 330 N Mathilda Ave, Sunnyvale - directions: the entrance to Peartree Apartments is off Indio Way, they are the nicer-looking one of the two complexes of both sides of the street (the one on the South side of the street), enter into the parking lot, turn left, go all the way to the end, my car is the gold Honda Odyssey. 12 noon August 27, sharp, so be there before then. If you are prone to being late, be here 11:30. You can park in the apartment complex but not in covered spaces. Or on Indio Way. My phone: 408-245-4928 Alternative starting point: 1pm at the Park-and-Ride on the West side of Hwy 101 in Marin County, off exit 443, I don't know the name of the exit, but it is the one between Alexander Ave to the south, and Rodeo Ave to the north. This is the trailhead for the Morning Sun trail in the Golden Gate National Recreation Are. Note there are two Park-and-Rides, we start from the one on the West side of the highway. We should be there 1pm if not, that means traffic is bad, wait. I will be in the gold Honda Odyssey. We should be back in South Bay by 7pm I think. We'll take it easy of course and adjust the speed to the slowest person. So don't be shy if you are slow, you can still come. What to take: sturdy shoes or boots, lots of water - I recommend 2 quarts per person, sunglasses, windbreaker - it is very windy there. In fact, just two people. Or, so I heard, biking may be more popular. So, let's try Outing revision 2.0, how about a bike ride in South Bay? So, a random bike ride in a random nice place, yields... an 11 mile ride in Long Ridge Open Space Preserve and Upper Stevens Creek County Park. It is not difficult, there are only two biking climbs, one 200 feet, the other 400 feet, and of course we will take it easy and conform to the slowest person. Since we'll be going slow, you don't need a real mountain bike, just something other than a real specialty road bike with narrow tires. There will also be a hiking-section, 2.5 miles, it's a hiking trail so we'll push the bikes and that's a good thing because it is mostly uphill, 600 feet up. I am (still) open this Saturday after 10am, all Sunday, Monday after 11am, Sep 9 after 11am, all of Sep 10. We better get started by 3pm at the latest, other than that it's your choice or time and date. Let me know if you are interested, we'll iron out carpooling, or you can show up there, the trailhead is near Saratoga Gap, less than half-an-hour drive from most places where extropians live :) Mark -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
