My note from the party, "synopsis program," was a reminder to look up
an information gathering and indexing program I had seen on sourceforge.
This might be it, the Harvest project:

But maybe not--I remember screen shots of a sidebar with snippets of
information, pulled from various sources, all of which had been
found in response to the same keyword in another window...
