Avatar helps heal outback

AN animated software tool developed in Alice Springs is poised to
revolutionise the delivery of health information to remote Aboriginal
communities in central Australia.

The program, created by a young co-ordinator from the Northern Territory
Department of Health, working with a team from Melbourne software house
Inchain, features Uncle - the world's first three-dimensional Aboriginal
avatar, or computer character, complete with guitar.
Medical managers have great hopes that this system will ease the difficult
task of providing crucial knowledge about diseases and treatments to remote
communities, where language is often a barrier to effective health
education.
