Well, if you imagine that the two journeys are superimposed on each other, 
with Monk A starting up the mountain and Monk B starting down the mountain 
at the same time, there must come a point where they would pass each other 
-- that seems like the point at which the monk would be in the same place 
at the same time on both days.
