Freedom is the ability of doing what one wants. If I know what you want,
I can sometimes predict what you will do; it doesn't make you any less free.
This concept of freedom is sound, and such freedom is desirable. The
other, metaphysical concepts of freedom (or "free will") are either
self-contradictory (being able to choose what one wants) or they refer
to things that are not worth wanting* ("undeterminedness").
Jacques
*the first book by Dennett on the subject was aptly subtitled "the
varieties of free will worth wanting" (but I don't recommend the book
itself).
