Pretty simple: the species is unwilling to give up living on planets in
humaniform appearance. This would limit the deconstruction of planets
to build j brains, s brains, m brains, ringworlds, among other
structures in the species star system. They would still be able to
develop, should they survive it, advanced nanotechnology, significant
IA and other augmentations, practical immortality, but would not
ascend, transcend, or otherwise abandon human form.
