It seems to translate as outright, no-holds-barred replacement of
sections of the brain.  (In this case, to replace abilities such as
memory that have been lost - but certain other prosthetic devices,
originally developed just to replace lost abilities, have already
exceeded average human capability, and there seems to be no reason to
believe that would not inevitably happen here too once things get
started.  This seems to qualify as "getting things started", under the
hide-from-the-Luddites keyphrase of "biomimetic electronics".)
