I'm opposed to teachers teaching anything they have not empirically
tested themselves. Anything else is dogmatic pabulum. I was once
hounded out of third grade class by a teacher for telling her she was
wrong to claim that seasons were caused by the Earth being closer or
further from the sun, rather than by the inclination of the Earth's
axis. Of course she was right, she was the teacher. I was just a
smart-ass. Her actions were no different than the Catholic Church's
dismissals of Galileo.
