Rick, variations on this idea have been around for at least half a century. 
Fred Pohl's `The Tunnel Under the World' (1955). Dan Galouye's SIMULACRON-3 
(1964) is a bit like this. My own THE SEA'S FURTHEST END (1964, 1993) is 
closer still, but more solipsistic. It's a possible explanation for some of 
the events in my forthcoming novel GODPLAYERS.
