a South Korea medical company said it plans to open the world's first
hospital exclusively providing treatment using stem cells obtained from 
umbilical cord blood.
Histostem Co. Ltd. <http://www.histostem.co.kr/english/english_1.htm> said 
it is close to a final agreement with an unnamed European investment company 
to set up the hospital in the southern resort island of Jeju in the first 
half of 2007. This will be the world's first hospital exclusively for 
umbilical cord blood stem-cell therapy.
In videotaped testimony screened at a press conference, several patients 
suffering from Buerger's disease, diabetes and liver cirrhosis said they had 
been improving remarkably following umbilical cord blood stem cell 
transplants.
