The stand by the ACLU was very controversial at the time and the news
reports of the time mentioned the internal strife that this caused the
ACLU as an organization.  There are differences between the positions
that I hold and those of the ACLU but in general the stand of the ACLU
improved my opinion of the organization.  The ACLU is not perfect but
they are useful on some issues.
