yeah, Philip Pullman lives in Oxford.

Also, of course, books by Neal Stephenson. Snow Crash in my opinion was by
far the best, but he also wrote The Diamond Age and Cryptonomicon. Very
Transhumanist, anarcho-capitalistic books. Snow Crash is wonderfully
anti-religious.
