Getting the Pu 239 out of solution before it captures another neutron.

Incidentally, the only people who would have interest in this are the 
inspectors for the International Atomic Energy Agency, and of course those 
who would are after nukes.

The US and Russia both have more plutonium than they want.

Why this process was not figured out and used decades ago is beyond me.
