As the cited article describes, Hilary Putnam originated functionalism and
multiple realisability in philosophy of mind,  justification for the idea
that you can swap your brain for an appropriately configured digital
computer and remain conscious and the same person. That you seem to take
this theory as a given is a tribute to his work, of sorts.
