Personally, I am persuaded that
- linguistic diversity is an asset;
- real translations are "impossible".

This makes a good case for the continued study of foreign languages
and the protection of the same.

OTOH, speaking of automatic translation, the idea is that of
replicating ubiquitously, at no cost, and in real time, what a good
human translator/interpreter can achieve in terms of facilitating
communication across language barriers.

I actually do not know whether the "brute force" approach or the more
AI-like approach are
Such a scenario would alter quite dramatically both such communication
*and* the ability to avoid linguistic discrimination and/or to choose
the language of one's preference to express oneself.
