Hansen et al. published a prediction in 1988. Hansen has been the
subject of much heat after that (pun intended :)
In 2006, the prediction were reviewed, and it turns out that their "B"
scenario (described as the "most plausible" between three different
scenarios examined in 1988) predicted accurately the later trend. See

This is a bit less of 20 years, so I'm not sure that it qualifies for
"a few decades". I know of no earlier quantititative prediction. If
you know of others, please share.
