The truth however is that *a few* religions have always been
metaphysical, faith-based and implicitely anti-scientific, much before
than an industrial revolution ever took place.

In fact, it has been argued that their coming substantially *delayed*
the development of modern technoscience (let alone pushed back actual
technology by centuries...), of which some promising signs were
emerging. According to other theories, their coming actually helped or
caused the revolution started with the modern age inasmuch as the
latter was also a strong reaction to centuries of obscurantism and
decadence ("what does not kill us, make us stronger"...).
