That is not Kurzweil's fault, it is in the nature of logarithmic plots. If
you wanted those events treated separately you'd need a chart the size of a
football field for the human eye to distinguish such closely spaced points.

Because he's only interested in the most powerful information processing
machine that existed in various eras and how their capacity has increased
over time. He wasn't interested in a new species of nematodes and neither am 
I.
