I'd heard of the European super-colony, but I wasn't aware it was transcontinental.  I wonder if this is one outcome of globalization: that not only do humans better integrate, but so do other species, especially colony-organisms.  Of course, this might not happen for all.  Why, for instance, do we not see bee super- or mega-colonies?
