I need to ask a question here, please indulge me if the answer should be obvious:

What's the point of sticking glaciers to their bedrock?

Also, if you're going to build up stupendous amounts of potential energy like this, you'd better have a good scheme for dealing with it when it finally breaks loose.  

Hm, maybe not. The frozen-to-bedrock layer will just become the new bedrock, and you'll be back to square one, surely?
