Ever since Stathis put me on the spot to state my feelings on
uploading and "brain prostheses", and in fact for several years prior,
I've been thinking about pretty much the same thing. At the time I
sent my response I actually thought this is what he was talking about,
but later decided he probably meant a full brain transplant.

Judging by the craziness Alex <ablainey at aol.com> is pulling off with
that EPOC EEG, I'm thinking it would be trivially easy to add new
"wings" to our brains. We might be able to do it right now, with
lab-grown neurons, if we can figure out a way to increase skull
capacity.

I hadn't considered a few of the tests you propose, though.
Specifically, temporarily "turning off" the organic hemisphere to see
if the synthetic hemisphere keeps working. I can imagine a lot of
problems with putting that into practice. Certainly, we couldn't even
try it until we start creating neurons via building rather than via
growing.

Hmm!
