I have heard of humans who get caught up in the emotion of the battle,
suicidal rage etc, but I don't think I have ever seen it in any other beast.
Here a woodpecker keeps coming back to fight, clearly not for self defense
or with any hope of actually devouring the serpent, but rather just to
injure or slay it:
