Which, after the persuasive arguments made in the indicated essay,
would indicate that actual human brains would not exist in this
universe.

A much stranger conclusion than than the fact, simply obscured by a
few centuries of philosophical dualism, that "consciousness" has no
really different ontological status, from, say, digestion or popular
sovereignty or any other process.
