Please point out the last time I argued that either AGI was impossible
or running an anonymous brain-scan could not ever be conscious.
This is another straw man.
I never argued that you couldn't make something conscious by using a
brain scan. (probably wouldn't work on a zombie such as myself... but
hey...)
My argument is, as it has been for many years, I care even less about a
copy of myself than I do about Michael Jackson. -- An example of
something that I scream at my radio about
"I D O N O T C A R E ! ! !" (usually less than a second before I
turn it off...)
If it were easy to non-destructively scan myself, I'd do so for no other
reason than to pacify the uploaders so that I would be free to pursue
REAL transhumanism. =( If that were to come to pass, I would
completely ignore the upload because it really is that uninteresting.
The upload itself would probably streamline itself down only what it
needed to wander around wherever repeating "So you have a copy of me,
Are you happy yet? What is it about this simulation am I supposed to
find enjoyable?"
Actually, for a superlative example of how that upload would behave,
observe how disinterested and disconnected my secondlife avatar is. I
only log it in for discussions, never change its appearance, gave up on
ever building something in SL cuz the engine sucks and the tools are
worse. The only other thing I do with it is look for interesting
architecture once in a blue moon. Really, the Saturday discussions are
the only reason I log in at all. =|
