A friend was also pointing out how most major news stories seem to be bad news, 
but this one was good news. I believe, as others have pointed out, the news 
media tends to promote -- not via some nefarious agenda, but just by the nature 
of what tends to attract viewers, listeners, and readers -- "pessimistic bias." 
(I borrow this term from Bryan Caplan's _The Myth of the Rational Voter_.)

I spend a lot of time studying how individuals and especially organizations make 
mistakes, due to cognitive biases, leadership errors, and organizational 
problems, leading to disaster. It's very nice, for a change, to have observed a
