I think the main point of the Columbia 'Not Even Wrong' blog is to
ridicule string theorists and their ilk, not physicists in general.
This is a pleasant hobby, of course.  :)

You didn't add a smiley to your quote from the Hebrew mathematician. ??
His first quote was exactly what you said it wasn't!   i.e. a sarcastic comment.
Rough translation:

The second quote is from his current maths blog page and is not
talking about this paper.
