Says who?
Just because Hugo decided his approach was not getting anywhere, it does
not follow that there is never going to be a general theory of AI.
I am not surprised that Hugo's approach ended up disappointing him. I
saw what he was doing just before he left for China, and my feeling at
the time was that he would hit a wall. What I didn't expect was that
he'd just give up completely.
But then, he's that kind of guy.
