(Sorry if this is a repeat.  I see posts claiming that the list eats
messages.  I did not see these refs come back at me.  So I am posting
again in a new thread, just to make sure they get through.)

- Gorham Cave in Gibraltar contained fossilized grains in the habitat
and feces of Neanderthals from 40,000 years ago.

- Shanidar Cave in Iraq and Spy Cave in Belgium contained Neanderthal
fossils with tooth tartar containing plants, legumes, and grains.
The multi-latitudinal sites demonstrate that this was a wide-spread
activity for Neanderthals.

- A supporting pdf shows pictures, catalogs a dozen different starch
grains in the diet.  They even demonstrate that the grains were cooked.
