I was thinking, too, why not dissipative heating of the sort where you just bleed away something? Has anyone done any work on this? Imagine, for instance, just having some fluid that leaks away as it gets hotter. Granted, this means you have to replenish or you'll run out and then overheat (if you keep generating heat at the same rate and don't have an alternative).
