While it is good that women are becoming empowered in the developing
countries and thus reducing the birth rate there is another problem
not mentioned in the article.

Gender selection. The reduced birth rate in developing countries is
also attached to a preference for male children. So, many males in the
younger generation will be unable to marry and have a family.  This
could lead to disruption in their society.
