Where there are no proportional electoral systems, the point of small
parties, in many cases single-issue parties, is to weigh the constituency
for their platform. In this respect, they have an influence in the sense
that large parties fine-tune their own propaganda in order to keep them
small, and above all to get the support of people who feel strongly enough
on a given subject to swing as a consequence of the position of a candidate
on the same.
