>...The original Greek philosophers called Cynics were, of course, not
interested in looking good.
In fact, they had much in common with early Christians. Some have argued
that the sayings attributed to Jesus were greatly influenced by the Cynic
Hey this could be a fun game. Take the sayings of Jesus and add what he
would have said had he been a cynical bastard. For instance:
Matthew 3:2 would have said:
And Jesus spake unto them saying, Repent ye, for the kingdom of heaven is at
hand. I bet ye a shekel it will be boring as hell...
Matthew 19:14 would have said:
But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto
me. Then we will send thy spawn over to grandma's house, and let her suffer
the little bastards until she is vexed unto death...
We have this idealized version of what a man should be, then hang the name
Jesus on that imaginary guy. Think about it, that is exactly how Jesus
evolved, ja? In nearly every graphic version, you see a guy with wavy brown
hair and blue eyes, definitely not what the actual man from Nazareth would
have looked like.
