This is true.  A pressure differential would indeed be a viable
source for the required energy, but in theory the absolute
physical limit is "any" differential, not necessarily a large one,
just so long as some energy can be harvested.  (Of course,
with really small differentials, one would get really small water
purification rates.)

The advance here, if indeed there is one, would be in boosting
the efficiency and thus lowering the minimum differential.
