Maybe. The problem is that the Germans are getting good at English, so 
it might be almost as useless as learning Swedish - the locals just 
switch to international mode and respond in English. Even the younger 
French are getting sensible.

Still, learning languages can be so fun. You learn much more than just 
words: they do embody cultures and ways of thinking, and they are 
beautiful stylistic instruments.

(Of course, around here the hardcore language fans think that sola 
lingua bona est lingua mortua.)
