There is data that suggests they aren't out there.  Not "some sentient
thing is actively destroying everyone who broadcasts" (because then we'd
see its own activity).  But just, they aren't - that we are alone, at least
so far as anything we can realistically interact with is concerned.  The
"extremely low chances" of this are based on assumptions, and conflicts
with the data that there is no one out there that we can detect.

That is what the data suggests so far.  Granted, it's impossible to
completely prove a negative such as this, but if we were going to be able
to detect someone using our current methods, odds are we would have done so
by now.  Better to focus our efforts on acquiring new methods - which,
among other things, requires getting a significant population off of Earth.
