I like this 'immune system' analogy.  There was once a time that smart
doctors would have extinguished gut flora; now we're learning there
are important things happening there.  Perhaps younger intelligences
can be cultivated like hedges and ivy after older intelligences have
built the arbor and trellis in the garden.
