An EV has the option to be fueled from photovoltaics or wind.  Even
nuclear, with its issues, is better than coal or gasoline.  (If you list
said issues, list coal's and compare.  Nothing is entirely problem-free.)

Also, the pollution can be contained at the generating plant instead of
spewed all over town.  Even if it isn't, that's still just one or a few
sites instead of everywhere the car goes.
