I did use a smiley, but as long as the perceived reward for winning is high
and the perceived downside for losing is low, as it is now, it encourages
lots of fools to enter the race.

But, yes, I agree: the stakes should be lowered. Dramatically cutting the
power of the federal government, and the President, as a result, would help.
