Well if you want concrete futurism, look at all the Star Trek devices
that are now real (or almost real).

tablet computers
Bluetooth headset
Tricorder devices for medical sensing
USB data devices
Voice activation
Large view screens now in every home
Universal Language Translator
GPS systems to locate crew members
Phaser weapons
etc...........
