Well, they've worked in Germany and Spain, with amazing rapidity. I've 
had leftist anti-establishment young Germans point out "the mistake" in 
my emails of using "daß" instead of "dass".

That's what I was getting at with "controversial"... (and ergo possibly 
successful -- that it's already in use would potentially be an advantage).
