The thing doctors always need to watch: lawsuits.  Eeeeevery yahoo wants to sue the medic if something goes wrong.  If a patient changes her mind about the procedure, she might sue on the basis she was stoned or depressed or some damn thing and the doctor shouldn’t have done the procedure even if she requested it.  Crazier lawsuits have paid off.
