It’s better to verify this, especially since there’s a related word, ‘epidemic.’ Anyhow, the word doesn’t derive from ‘pandemonium’:

So, it’s much more closely related to ‘democracy’ or ‘demography.’
In fact, the ‘-demonium’ part of the second word derives via Latin from a different Greek word:
