understatement!

And the answer is "It depends". Some viruses, like hepatitis B, are
completely immune to soap but other viruses, like, luckily, Wuhan virus,
are quite susceptible. Generally hand washing helps in preventing most
communicable disease, even if some of it is just mechanical removal of
infectious material.
