That idea appears in, um, something by Heinlein i think.  Before 
embarking on a quest, everyone in the party is required to get a tattoo 
of their medical history.  Others choose to have it in a prominent place 
in invisible ink, but the narrator prefers ordinary ink, where it will 
normally be covered -- his bottom.  «Starship Troopers» maybe?
