Also, there's the romantic notion that most people really want to know --
especially to know things that might conflict with their worldview or their
view of themselves. Now that doesn't seem to be the case at all. Add that
to limits of attention and I think you get what you see: people filtering
out 'noise' and attending mainly to stuff that reinforces their worldview.
And cat videos. :)
