I grew up in Alaska, and we had a gregarious individual who always had a
booth at the state fair, where he would promote his organization that had
the goal of Alaska seceding from America, so it could be its own nation. My
stepfather would always take some time to argue with the guy, by saying
that without the American military to protect it, Alaska could never stay
free from Russia.
