'idiotic and horrible" ??? - but that is the intended outcome!
Don't forget that in the USA, medical and pharma companies are a huge
'for-profit' industry. As has been noted there is little profit for
them in curing sickness and disease. For them, the ideal solution is not curing,
but a regular, expensive treatment plan to keep their profits flowing.
So that's what Americans get.
It's the American Way!

Luckily for the rest of the world, generic treatment alternatives
outside the patent system are appearing and the virus itself also
appears to be becoming less dangerous.
