[ExI] What do the stars make an astrophysicist feel?

I suspect that most if not all intelligent alien species would be as aggressive and violent as humans are. Competition and violence is at the root of life, at least for evolved life. It may be the case that some alien life that is itself created by an intelligence will be benign by design.
