I don't know what the fuss is about. Or rather, I do.

It's called 'journalism'.

And its purpose is to get people to spend time on the website in 
question, seeing adverts and generating click-revenue.

As for the 'scary' conversations, this is just people pushing the system 
in certain directions with the intention of getting it to say 
sensationalist things that they can write an article about that will get 
people stirred up.
