I suspect you have that flipped.  If the choice is "he lives" or "everyone
else dies", then that's "he lives (and everyone else doesn't die)" or
"everyone else dies (and he doesn't live)".

Which...you know, if the price of the rest of humanity living is that he
lives too?  That's a small price to pay.
